Physiotherapy has a variety of treatment parameters, where Electrotherapy is a growing and promising way in the modern era. Since this field is growing so rapidly, it is important for physiotherapists to stay acquainted with the various modalities available for use. These modalities are designed with utmost precision and are meant to give maximum benefit to the patient as well as to the therapist.
Through Switch India, I got a chance to learn more about these modalities in general, and also the development of technology in the medical field. We, 16 students from Switch visited the Bionics Innovation Centre, located at Mahim on 17th August, 2019.
We reached the centre at around 2:30 pm and were greeted well by the staff. They then divided us into two groups. This was especially time saving and also helped avoid crowding. We completed the visit at around 5:15 pm and the visit lasted for about 2.5 hours.
Two engineers (Mr. Mustaq and Mr. Amol) from their team showed the various new modalities to each group alternately which were based on both Indian and International companies. They were well versed with the basics of Human Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology and the uses of Electrotherapy in various cases.
They gave live demonstration of these modalities on the volunteers and also showed us the videos related to the usage of these modalities. Some modalities amazed us like the wireless stimulators that could be used to give Electrotherapy combined with active exercises, a neostimulator which gives a range of different parameters and all types of therapeutic currents.
We were all thrilled to know about the versatility of these machines. Most of these modalities were of Chattanooga brand which is the number 1 brand for Electrotherapy modalities. We were also briefed about the cost of these modalities and their maintenance as well.
With such versatile and promising modalities available for treatment, I am sure Physiotherapy could do wonders for patients out there. I am glad to have gotten this opportunity from Switch to spread a word about these wonderful innovations, rather blend of medical science and engineering.
