Through switch India NGO in association with Shri Vardhaman Sthanakvasi Jain Sangh-Tardeo, we got the opportunity to get a hands on in the clinical field by setting up a medical camp. The morning of 18th August 2019 at Tardeo began with us, young soon to be doctors getting familiar with the each other as well as the set up of the camp.
Everyone there was so helpful and polite. Oh! The joy of hearing yourself called doctor by so many people. The people at the camp were kind enough to serve us hot beverages before the camp started. I think it was well needed, as some of the physicians there barely get a full night's sleep.
As the patients started to roll in, a newbie as myself was a little confused and skeptic. Although the regulars made sure that they helped me until I got into the hang of it. We checked the patients' blood pressure, their blood sugar level, took their body mass index. This was done by 2nd years.
It was followed by a general examination done by a couple of 3rd years and other seniors. The patients were referred to the physicians as well as the physiotherapists by the general examiners. The general examination was one of the most important sessions if not the most important session I believe.
The physicians prescribed medication and referred them to specialists further if it was required. At the same time, the physiotherapists showed their respective patients the exercises that were needed to get them off and running.
After the patients made their way out of the centre with satisfied and filled hearts, we the doctors and the students took relieved breaths. This was followed by an amazing learning session for the students by the skillful doctors present there.
This was followed by the certificate distribution by the senior most member of the Shri Vardhaman Sthanakvasi Jain Sangh-Tardeo. As if their hospitality wasn't enough, we were offered a quick delicious lunch. The day ended with a sense of fulfillment and satisfaction.
