"If you are not the hero of your own story, then you're missing the whole point of your humanity"
This powerful quote makes one wonder, isn't it? What can be done to touch lives of others and be a hero? The answer can sometimes be as simple as FIRST AID.
What is first aid? It is the immediate help given to any injured or ill person until full medical treatment is available. Ironically, first aid was always thought of as a medical or paramedical domain, but it is the need of the hour to train general public as first aid has proven effective in saving lives and improving chances of survival.
Thus, Switch India in association with Bright Future NGO organised awareness campaigns regarding the same on 17th August 2019. 3 centres of Bright Future NGO were selected - Bhandup, Govandi and Ghatkopar targeting a total number of 80 young adults.
Topics included were basic first aid for wounds, burns, fractures, head injury, spinal injury, heart attack, stroke, etc. Live demonstration of splinting, making arm slings, Heimlich's manoeuvre added practical value to the session.
The session was made interactive by the volunteers, and the energy and enthusiasm of the audience was palpable.
The audience also came up with interesting questions and doubts, and the volunteers even gave them tips regarding how to act in an emergency situation. Details regarding services such as 108 ambulance service and 1 rupee clinic were also given.
Among all the camps by Switch India I've attended so far, I enjoyed this one the most! I learnt more than I taught, which in my opinion is the best way of learning!
