A small village located 10Km from Badlapur city and comes under Kalyan Taluka of Thane district in Maharashtra, India.
No proper road or mode of transportation is available to connect with the Badlapur city. As a remote village there is no health care facility available to the people. The literacy rate is also very low. People are only engaged into farming for survival. The village has a good population ranging from toddlers to elderly.
Health facilities The nearest hospital is 10Km far and the traveling costs them about Rs.50 which is not at all affordable to them. Also the hospital facility is not up to the mark. Other 2-3 private hospitals and clinics are available in the city but paying their expense is out of question.
Drawbacks: No ambulance facility is available for the patients. No medicines are available. If one gets fever, cough, cold, acidity or any such thing they have no option but to wait for it to subside by itself. Wounds are left uncleaned for days. Eye problems are neglected leading to loss of vision.
Our initiative! A general health check-up camp was organized by SWITCH group on 14th February 2016. According to our survey following conditions are faced by the people:
As many of the villagers were not keen and motivated regarding their health, they did not turn up for a check-up and hence we could not evaluate all of them.
Our team: A physician, Physiotherapists, Sujog therapist and medical students and few volunteers were a part of our team.
Treatment Given: Medicines were provided for fever, cough & cold, acidity, pain, etc. Physiotherapy for pain and other problems. Sujog therapy was given to patients. Blood pressure and BMI were taken for all. Our Conclusion: After spending a day and interacting with villagers about their problems we had our results. We need to train 2-3 literate persons from the village and supply them with basic first aid kits for the village. Also, we need to contact the nearest government hospital for referral cases and further investigation and management.
