We have all heard of yoga, it is an ancient practice, but not many know about the scientific concept behind it. Many people see yoga as just a practice of assuming some body postures (asana) and the benefits of those on our body systems like improving flexibility or circulation.

YOGIC LIFESTYLE – A LECTURE BY Dr. Bhalekar

YOGA PRACTICE- SESSION BY Mr. Manjeet Rai.

Mr. Manjeet Rai conducted a small introductory session on basic yoga poses and chanting of OM. He explaines the importance of following correct steps to attain a final pose or asana, the speed required to do it, body alignment while performing, for many of us it was the 1st time of practicing yoga which made it difficult for us to attain and maintain asanas.

But the session was motivating in its own way, it gave a jist of where our limitations are, and can be improved with practice. Inspiring us to incorporate yoga in our daily schedules.

YOGA AND RESEARCH

The centre has its very own research centre where the yogic practice done on patients and its effects on body systems is studied with respect to biochemistry, physiological and psychological aspects. There is a lot of scope in finding the scientific reasoning to justify the effects of yogic practice on human body.

  • On-going research mainly focuses on obtaining the effects of yoga on various non-communicable diseases as lifestyle modification is the key to prevention and improving health in those conditions.
  • Studies already conducted have proved positive health benefits of performing particular asana for specific conditions.
  • Some examples are- Timed vital capacity and velocity index improved after kapalbharti. Neuro-muscular efficiency improved after 3 weeks of yoga practice in normal and stressful conditions.
