Switch India is a Healthcare organization run by medical and paramedical students and personnel from across the country, with a common goal: to take modern medicine deep into the interiors of the country and do our bit in making healthcare more accessible and to all sections of the population.
Founded in 2016, we started with a health camp in a small village screening around 70 patients. Today we have branched into initiatives for physical fitness and mental health; conducted dozens of health camps and awareness campaigns in urban and rural areas; and collaborated with various organizations to conduct medical workshops, seminars and Educational field visits.
India ranks 112th in the world of health care, a level from which we definitely need to step up. Burdened with overpopulation, poverty, and dismal doctor-to-patient ratio of 1:2000 as opposed to the WHO recommended 1:250, a large proportion of India’s population lacks access to basic healthcare.
Despite having 70% rural population, a majority doctors prefer the comfort and ease of working in urban areas. Needless to say, the wide expanses of rural areas become dependent on a few isolated medical premises.
Therefore, at Switch, we decided to make the scenario a little better for our people. During the course of our work, we quickly realized that urban and rural areas have their own unique set of problems, ranging from superstition to the perils of luxuries.
Over the years, we’ve gained more volunteers and molded our efforts and initiatives for each underprivileged section of society to do our part in achieving a basic human right- Affordable quality healthcare.
Four years later, Switch India has become a pioneer in promoting quality health care in rural and urban areas. Ours is a group of enthusiastic and determined people who wish to help in changing the situation of health care in India. We’d love to have you on board!
