‘Healthcare isn’t a service that waits for people to come to them but rushes to the needy without a second thought.’

Healthcare is not a luxury but a basic human need and a right bestowed to every human being. But not all humans are privileged or strong enough to utilize this right due a variety of socio-economic reasons.

With this exact feeling in our minds we, the students from Dr. Vasantrao pawar medical college, Nashik and members of Switch India set out on the streets of Adgaon, a small nearby village to take healthcare where it’s needed the most.

The students visited door to door roaming in the streets to search for patients either ignorant of their conditions or could not spare time to visit healthcare centres.

Objectives achieved:-

  • Around 30 subjects were examined.
  • Necessary advice and medications provided.
  • If necessary, the subjects were referred to the required ward in the hospital.
  • Deworming done for all children.
  • Blood Pressure check up done for elderly subjects.
  • The students utilized this opportunity to improve their language and communication skills as well as improve their understanding of a rural lifestyle. Majority of the population screened were farmers, labourers etc.

The students also made a point to counsel the subjects regarding the preventive measures for common occupational hazards. At the same time, as the monsoon season still continues with occasional rains, the students counselled the residents regarding the common diseases like dengue, malaria, chikangunya and other parasitic infections that are common during this period.

All the volunteers approached each home with the same enthusiasm and ended the camp with a satisfaction in their minds. Thus, the first Switch Camp in Nashik ended on a high note with the volunteers eagerly waiting for another such opportunity soon.
